On Monday, 20th January 2020, our Scotland Representative and Project Manager Davide Bargna has been invited by the Consulate General of Italy to attend the International Trade Conference organised by CBI (Confederation of British Industry) in Edinburgh as In-Market expert for Italy.
Sponsored by TSB, KPMG and Dentons, the event featured talks by speakers including Ivan McKeen, Minister for Trade, Investment and Innovation, Andrew Mitchell, HM Trade Commissioner for Europe, Sean McGuire, CBI Brussels Director, John Crawford and Chris Keenan from Scottish Enterprise, and many others. The First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon also discussed her Government’s objectives on Scotland’s future in the international markets.
Updates were shared on the Export Mentoring Scheme as well as The Scottish Government’s Trading Nation Strategy, setting a target of increasing exports to 25% of Scottish GDP by 2029. During the “Ask the Experts” roundtables, our Scotland Representative presented import/export opportunities to the businesses from different sectors interested in the Italian market, answering questions and providing advice. An illuminating case study on Nairn’s Oatcakes was also presented by Katie Birrell.
The Scottish Office of the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the UK is committed to keep supporting Scottish companies interested in making business in Italy and vice versa, especially during such uncertain times.
