PARTNERSHIP | Spring 2020 22 Scavolini, one of the greatest Italian furniture companies The story of a family business shining all over the world S cavolini, set up by brothers Elvino and Valter Scavolini, is an Italian company specialised in the design and creation of luxurious kitchens, now a member of the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the UK. The company was founded in 1961 in Pesaro (Marche), with a small range of fitted kitchens, which immediately proved to be very popular thanks to their modular design. Encouraged by the initial success encountered, Scavolini expanded their premises and started innovating the furniture sector to foster their business growth. With experience gained over 50 years, Scavolini learnt how to respond and adapt to the taste and trends of almost three generations of consumers, transiting from being a small workshop to a major industrial company. In 1984, Scavolini was the leader in the domestic furniture business and became, in everyone’s eyes, “la cucina più amata dagli italiani” (Italians’ favourite kitchen), thanks to an advertising campaign starring some of the most popular Italian showgirls. Following the sponsorship in 1979 to the Rossini Opera Festival (an international event taking place annually in Pesaro), the company decided to promote other cultural events creating, in 1984, the Scavolini Foundation. The founders of the company wanted indeed to promote Pesaro and Marche region’s cultural events, nurturing activities linked to development and progress. Since then, the Foundation renovated Rossini’s museum and restored several historical sites in Pesaro, promoting the region. This same project led to the creation of “Utility System”, a design programme that eliminates any obstacles for those with reduced mobility or disabilities, without compromising the aesthetics and design of the kitchen.
