Italy - UK Partnership

PARTNERSHIP | Summer 2019 02 | THE PRESIDENT’S PERCEPTION Brexit in Stand-by, progress at the Chamber In a frantic final weeks before the deadline of the 29th March, first a postponement to the 12th April has been granted by the EU to the UK (Government and Parliament at the moment apparently working together to find a compromise) and finally not having reached any majority for a solution, a further extension has been given up to the end of October. At the Chamber we believe in the future of the UK and Europe although with changes in their necessary cooperation. We hope that, with this new extension and the new European Parliament created by the May European election, an agreement which will not penalise the economy and the bilateral - multilateral relationship with an honourable compromise will be reached. In the meantime we focus on the life of the Chamber and the road map to reach the goal of a new governance that can tackle with success the challenges and the grasp opportunities of the future. At the 29th April Board there will be the presentation of the two candidates for the election of the new President which will be held on the 13th June. The two candidates are Alessandro Belluzzo and Roberto Pollara. At the 20th May Board presented will be a few necessary changes to the chamber bylaws with approval to be sought at the next General Assembly. Progress has been made also on the conclusion of the new lease, where the Chamber will have much better and larger offices yet remaining at the same prestigious address, continuing the sharing of synergies with ENIT.The signing of the new contract with the Crown Estate and ENIT is foreseen in May and the works of refurbishment will start right away so to utilise the summer months. We look forward to an efficient Chamber which will provide very competitive services to members and other entrepreneurs who want to expand their activities internationally; helping also the young and start-ups with mentoring by the talented Italians in the UK. To achieve these results there is a need for team work, support and understanding with the members and cooperation with the other actors of Sistema Italia.
